TYPES OF CASES ADMITTED TO ICU

1. Accident cases of serious nature usually vehicular accident or accident involving multipile cross injuries involving fractures and haemorrhage.
2. Acute poison deteriorating general condition of patient.      
3. Severe burn case of more than 30%.
4. Heart patient of ischaemic nature.
5. Other coma patients.
6. Cerebro vascular accident.
7. Patients with respiratory failure.
8. Major surgery case.

DUTIES OF NURSE IN ICU

1. She should be perfectly trained handling equipments like oxygen appratus,artificial respirator,incubator.
2. She should be trained for cardiac massage.
3. She should be observe the general condition of patient like change in appearance,breathing,colour of skin for cyanosis.
4. The pulse and respiration should be noted as frequently as possible or as per advise of doctor.
5. Blood pressure record is another important duty in ICU.It may be done at interval of 15 minutes or 30 minutes.Some patients remain with BP cuff attatched to their hands to save time of binding the cuff.
6. In common patients all due nursing care in regards position ,care of pressure area,care of tongue etc,should be paid attention constantly.
7. The change over nurse should know all apparatus and equipment in perfect use condition.Any defect or non availability of any such equipment for nursing should be reported to the doctor or sister incharge immediately and be arranged for supply.
